Negative self-talk is one of the main symptoms of depression and anxiety. Negative self-talk is the reason why mental health warriors spiral and relapse. We don’t realize how often we talk to ourselves. We do it unconsciously but, we certainly do it. I believe self-talk is incredibly important and it directly correlates with our ability to think, feel and act. Therefore, we think what we tell our brain to think. That is why positive affirmations are a fundamental part of mental health recovery.
In essence, if we control our brain to think a certain way, we can definitively challenge our thoughts and drive them towards a positive, uplifting path. We can rewire our thoughts. We can teach ourselves to identify the negative self-talk and subsequently, transform our thoughts into a productive and positive self-talk. With that principle in mind, I encourage you to utilize affirmations to lift your spirit and find the motivation to continue fighting. Positive affirmations have power – especially, if they are based on God.
