My name is Jennifer Rodriguez-Nieves; I am a wife, mother of Tippy (sassy cat) and Gene (fluffy guinea pig), PhD student, mental health warrior and daughter of God.
My mental health journey started over three years ago.
During my graduate training, I started to develop major mental health symptoms. I knew it was time to seek medical care, however the stigma associated with mental health stopped me from fighting depression and anxiety. I can’t tell you how much I regret that decision! Stigma should’ve never stopped me from getting the help I needed.
Time passed and my battle against depression and anxiety reached a point were it was no longer manageable. I lost control of the situation, and fear overpowered me. As a consequence, I was admitted to the hospital.
As crazy as it sounds, getting admitted to the hospital was the best thing that could have happened. I was finally getting treated for my mental health conditions! By the time I got out of the hospital, I was a new person. I had a treatment plan, established meetings with a psychologist and psychiatrist, and equipped to fight and win my battle against depression and anxiety.
Soon after my hospital stay I realized that, although going to the hospital was the best decision, all of it could’ve been prevented. That is why I created PhDmind!
PhDmind’s mission is to help YOU. I will discuss topics related to mental health and Christianity, a significant part of my life, and I will provide all the tools, advices, strategies, and information that have helped me fight and overcome mental illness. I will be sharing my story and journey as a daughter of God, wife, and mental health warrior and advocate.
BUT most importantly, I will be doing all of this with YOU.
I look forward to getting to know you! 💙
